ArtsXpose 4- Riley Bossick

Title of Event: Slow Looking

Date & Time of Event: December 2 at 3pm

Location of Event: The Samek Museum

Type of event: Exhibition

I love the aesthetic of this exhibit. I discovered that this exhibit was a gift from a Bucknell alum, art ranging from a variety of artists. This took over 50 years for him to cultivate this and I believe he has done a great job executing this. While walking around the room, I noticed there were paper receipts hung up from him purchasing the different art pieces. I like this sort of element, as it shows a more behind the scene look into the process of purchasing art. I enjoy the diverse pieces: screen prints, paintings, drawings and so much more. I thought it was very well thought out the way the collection was presented in the Samek.

Title of Event:  The Gleaners by Maggie Cardelús

Date & Time of Event: Dec 9th at 12pm

Location of Event: Holmes 103

Type of event: Artist opening/reception

For my third artsXpose I chose to visit Maggie Cardelús’s needlepoint exhibition. After listening to her speak earlier this semester, it’s nice to see her artwork she’s been working on while staying here. I thought it was interesting that the needlepoint art pieces were quite similar, but varied by size, color and technique. I love that you can see her experimentation through her art pieces and all the dedication she puts into it as well.

Title of Event: Maggie Cardelús Artist Lecture

Date and time of event: October 9 5:00pm

Location of Event: Holmes Auditorium

Type of Event: Artist Lecture

This was a very interesting and exciting event to attend. She truly cares about her work, having so much meaning and thought into all of her projects. I love that through her 30 years of creating art, she has explored many different materials, ranging from altercations of old photos to needle point art. I found that her process of experimentation with the needlepoint canvas by adding layers of paint, cutting it, and stacking multiple layers reminds me of science projects. It incorporates testing different methods out and highlights the intersectionality of art’s nuances, and also the meticulous complexity of the sciences.

Project 2-Riley Bossick

My personal experience is my transition through college my freshman year. During the first semester I started to change as a person. My personality was changing, my beliefs, thoughts, opinions, and I started to express myself in different ways. Initially, I didn’t think much of it. When I went home after a few months of being in college, I felt quite strange. I knew I was different from when I left my hometown, but when I went back, I slipped back into my “old-self”. Soon after I came back to college I once again slipped into my “present self”. I felt internally confused and conflicted. I didn’t want to lose the person I was before, but at the same time, people change, especially when going to college. Resisting the change only made the stress worse. I felt like I had no option but to switch between the two inorder to stay connected with my friends from back home because my past self is how they see me; my college friends saw me as something else. I was ashamed to associate with my past self and life while at college. It was a battle between my past and present self, pushing away one another depending on where I was.
